The Story Behind the Nerds
As first- and second-generation tradesmen, we knew the power of the trades industries to American culture and society…
and we also knew the typical perception of the trades industry…
which we wanted to change and let the general public know how great these every-day servicers can be.
Before we knew it we were a veteran and family owned and operated business in the Upstate, with a skillset that allowed us to grow quickly and capitalize on decades of expertise, problem solving capabilities, and skill.
Long before there was a name, there was a shared belief.
After more than 45 years of combined experience in the HVAC industry, our team had seen a problem over and over again…people were being left frustrated, uncomfortable, and misinformed because so many heating and cooling systems were either installed incorrectly or poorly maintained. In fact, according to national research, up to 90% of HVAC systems fail prematurely due to improper installation or lack of maintenance. We knew families were spending thousands of dollars they didn’t need to, all because the industry had settled into “good enough” standards.
But we don’t believe in “good enough.”
We believe in doing things the right way. With science, with precision, with craftsmanship, and most importantly, with education.
So when we set out to start our company, we didn’t just want to service heating and cooling systems. We wanted to teach homeowners how their systems worked so they could make the best decisions for their home, their comfort, and their wallets. We wanted to empower people with knowledge. Not pressure them with sales tactics.
We drafted our business plan.
We laid out the training program.
We built the processes, an apprenticeship model, the Comfort Club maintenance plans, the System Performance Report Card. We designed a company to raise the standard of HVAC service in the Upstate.
One afternoon, while discussing the detailed diagnostic reports we planned to deliver and our focus on teaching instead of selling, someone laughed and said:
“We sound like a bunch of HVAC nerds.” And our company name was born!
We’re nerds about airflow.
